Is Online Gambling Safe?

If you have never placed a wager online, this has got to be the first question that comes to mind.  In my experience with online gambling, I would have to answer yes, but just like anything that you consider dropping your hard earned money into, a little research first won't hurt.  My first rule of thumb is to look for the licensing information and the professionalism of the site. Look for the GPWA Seal or CAP emblem.  If these 2 banners are on the site, then it is a safe bet that they treat their affiliates right which means the players are happy as well.  Also keep an eye out for the eCOGRA label.  They are a non-profit organization that is the independent standards authority of the online gaming industry which specifically oversees fair gaming, player protection and responsible operator conduct.

The majority of reputable online casinos that support U.S. players will sport the KAHNAWAKE label.  This Commission is empowered to regulate and control gaming related activities conducted within and from the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake (An Indian Reserve on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada, across from Montreal) in accordance with the highest principles of honesty and integrity.

It takes alot of money to start an online casino and because of this investment, the majority do not wish to risk the possibility of gaining a bad reputation.

I have been playing online for a couple of years now and have seen a few sites come and go.  Some without any notice at all.  My advice is to always be smart, do your research, read the terms and conditions and look for the licensing information and labels as mentioned above.  I research every site that I represent and stay in touch with other webmasters through GPWA and CAP to keep up with the latest information.  If you are just starting out with online gambling, I would recommend sticking to sites that are well known.  Visit other forums and ask questions.  I would steer clear of casinos that pass out "freechips" like candy.  More than likely, you will not be able to cash out if you win.  The reputable ones will reward you with comps and other bonuses along the way.  I even avoid the matching bonus offers as they place restrictions on your play.  You will have to meet a playthrough requirement and most only allow slot play.  I prefer video poker so I usually make a $50 deposit and play either nickels or quarters.  I make single or double bets until I get a feel for the gameplay and when I feel froggy I leap to betting max.

If you are ever unsure about any site that I represent, please feel free to drop me an e-mail or ask about it on the forum.  I will always respond as quickly as possible to any questions that you may have.  tripnbilly@gmail.com

Is Online Gambling Legal?

Ah, a tricky question these days.  For the most part, yes.  It mainly depends on the applicable laws in your particular country but here in the United States, only 11 states are actually forbidden by State Law to participate in online gambling. I think this is somewhat ironic that the particular states banned from online gambling are the same ones that allow brick and mortar casinos to operate within their borders. The UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) and the FBI would have you to believe that gambling online is right up there with child pornography in criminal activity and have left the enforcement of this act mainly up to the banking industry.  You can keep up to date on the current legislative events by visiting the News, Views, and Reviews section of our forum.  There is also a post regarding Deposit & Withdrawal methods in that section as well.  I will elaborate more on those options here in the near future, but most online gambling sites will list what options are open to players.  For the time being, I highly recommend setting up a Quicktender or UseMyWallet account if you live here in the US.  Pre-paid debit cards such as Visa Green Dot are widely accepted but can get costly with the added fees. Most methods are going to end up costing something and even withdrawing your winnings can be tricky these days thanks to the current vague legislature. If you have any questions on making a deposit or a withdrawal at any of the sites that I represent, or are concerned with any legalities, please feel free to contact me at the e-mail address above and I will assist you in any way that I can.

Happy & Safe Gambling Everyone!!
